Wahoo, after a bit of trouble with UPS, the Kindle 2 I ordered yesterday is here! And how good a wife am I that I’m letting the hubby take it on his business trip next week? 
First impressions is that the hardware is GREATLY improved over the first Kindle. Did a little of the text-to-speech feature on the Kindle intro guide and I have no idea why the Authors’ Guild is so up in arms about it. They are mental, thinking that this would infringe in any way on their ability to sell audiobook rights. And as many people have mentioned, it’s an insult to even compare the professionals who do audiobook voiceovers to this text-to-speech feature. Authors’ Guild, feel free to remove your feet from your mouths any time. 
Anyway, I’m glad to finally have the Kindle 2, even though I’ll be doing a substantial amount of reading on my Kindle iPhone app. It’s a great piece of kit, and I’m happy to help Amazon make e-books a more viable and accepted means of publishing. I suspect our Sony Readers are going to become rather forlorn and feel lonely. :-/
